How PRP Enhances the Effects of Fillers

Platelet-rich plasma is a form of regenerative medicine, which aims to boost your body’s natural healing ability. When used in tandem with fillers, PRP therapy can enhance the effects and promote healing long after the collagen has been absorbed. This creates better, longer-lasting results, so you can get the most out of your injections.

At DERMABARE, a med spa located in Laguna Niguel, California, Ramin Tayani, MD and his team provide PRP treatment as a way to enhance the effect of fillers on your facial appearance and skin health. Get the glow you deserve!

Platelet-rich plasma 101

Regenerative medicine has come a long way in recent years. One advancement is PRP therapy, which aims to encourage healing by injecting platelet-rich plasma into targeted areas.

When you get a cut or scrape, blood rushes to the site of the wound. Your platelets start the healing process by clotting the blood in the area, and then send out tiny signals through your body to call growth hormones to the area to begin repairing damage.

Isolating the platelets within your blood’s plasma lets your doctor concentrate them so they can be used elsewhere. We use a special centrifuge system that separates the platelets and plasma from the rest of your blood cells, concentrating it into PRP. This substance is bioidentical and therefore won’t be rejected by your body, making it completely safe and the ideal regenerative technique to enhance other treatments.

Combining fillers with PRP

The primary benefit of platelet-rich plasma is that it can be combined with other treatments — including dermal fillers. This two-in-one treatment can give you smoother skin and hide fine lines and wrinkles, while prompting your body to kickstart the regenerative process.

As you age, your skin begins to lose collagen and elastin. This causes volume loss, sagging, and wrinkles. Dermal fillers work by adding hyaluronic acid, which plumps your skin and encourages the production of new collagen.

However, these results are temporary. You’ll need to repeat the injection process once the fillers are absorbed into your body and processed out as natural waste. By adding platelet-rich plasma to the initial injection, though, you can boost your own body’s collagen production and prolong your results naturally.

If you’re interested in receiving dermal fillers to rejuvenate your complexion, ask about adding PRP to your treatment. The team at DERMABARE can explain exactly how PRP therapy works and help you decide if it’s right for you.
