Do you buy product after product to rejuvenate, protect, or restore your skin, only to end up less than satisfied with your results? You’re not alone. The global skin care products market is expected to exceed $183 billion by 2025, but sadly, many of those products will end up sitting unused in bathroom cabinets.

At DERMABARE, a med spa located in Laguna Niguel, California, Ramin Tayani, MD, and his team focus on developing personalized skin care regimens using advanced skin care products from EltaMD® SkinCare.

Introducing EltaMD

When it comes to skin care, EltaMD has everything needed to build a customized regimen. The most important job skin care products have is to protect your skin from harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays, which can even be present on cloudy days.

At DERMABARE, we carry all of the following EltaMD sun care products to protect your skin:

  • UV Elements
  • UV Daily Tinted
  • UV Daily Untinted
  • UV Clear Tinted
  • UV Clear Untinted

How EltaMD sunscreens work

According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, your risk for developing melanoma (skin cancer) doubles once you’ve had five or more sunburns. When you use the right sunscreen in the right way and follow other sun protection measures, you can decrease damage from burning, reduce early skin aging, and reduce your risk for developing skin cancer.

Ultraviolet (UVA and UVB) rays account for 95% of dangerous sun exposure. All EltaMD sun care products provide safe, broad-spectrum UV protection. The secret is zinc oxide, which is a natural mineral compound. When used in a topical sunscreen, zinc sunscreen forms a protective layer on the surface of your skin. It can block the widest spectrum of UVA and UVB rays. Zinc oxide is safe for all skin types.

Using sun protection products

According to the FDA, sunscreen must have a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15. All EltaMD sun care products have an SPF of 31 or higher. The FDA also notes that you must use sunscreen properly for it to have the optimal effect:

  • Apply it at least 15 minutes before going outside
  • Don’t miss critical areas, such as the backs of your ears and nape of your neck
  • With each application, use an amount that would fill a shot glass (3 tablespoons)
  • Reapply at least every two hours or after swimming or getting wet
  • Discard sunscreen that has been left out in the sun or that is more than 3 years old

Combining proper sunscreen use with a custom skin care routine can help your skin age slower, help prevent wrinkles and fine lines from forming, and reduce your risk of developing skin cancer.
